Do it once – after that, the hotkey is all you need.
PhrasePop runs in the menu bar, without a Dock icon. After an update, macOS may ask for the permissions again; in that case, remove the old entry and add it again.
./linux-setup.sh /full/path/to/phrasepop The path is an example and must point to your extracted file. The script sets up wl-clipboard, ydotool and the GNOME hotkey – needed under Wayland to paste into other windows. The key for local encryption is stored in the GNOME keyring.
No. Your personal snippets work without an account and offline. You only need an account for the optional cloud sync between your devices and for the company area.

Windows (64-bit), macOS on Macs with Apple Silicon (M1 or later) and Linux (64-bit). There is currently no download for Intel Macs. The Linux setup covers GNOME on Wayland.
For example, write [[Name]] into a snippet. When inserting, PhrasePop briefly asks for the value – the template stays the same, and the greeting still fits.
Your snippets are stored encrypted on your device (Windows: DPAPI, macOS/Linux: AES-256-GCM with the system keychain). If you turn on cloud sync, snippets, your own PhrasePops, categories and placeholders are encrypted with your own sync password before uploading – the server only sees unreadable data. Device settings and statistics stay local.
Personal snippets belong to you alone. Company snippets are maintained centrally on the server by your company; they are not end-to-end encrypted, so the people in charge can edit them. Delivery of company snippets to the desktop app is coming in one of the next versions.
To paste text into other apps, PhrasePop needs the Accessibility permission. Because the app is currently signed without an Apple developer certificate, macOS may block it on first launch. The steps are in the setup section below.
